The 2005 Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race #1 (MOMAR 001) was held near Duncan, British Columbia on Vancouver Island. The 30km race included kayaking, mountain biking, trekking and mystery events, and there's a great write-up (including photos) on the MOMAR site:

...CP 7 was located at the Cross which offers the best view of the Cowichan Valley. It was also the site of the second Mystery Event. Each team had to find one of the hidden Easter Eggs that were scattered around the CP. Inside the eggs was a chance to win great prizes like GutBuster and MOMAR race entries, Helly Hansen Lifa Versa tops, and a grand prize of a kayaking and whale watching trip donated by Cowichan Bay Kayaking. The Easter Hunnies were the lucky team to win the grand prize...
