This very well may excuse the sentimental lilt found below. Or perhaps not.]

BIG and relentless. These two words sum-up this race. I really do not know where to start in summarizing the race. To say it was “fun” is not the correct word. Finishing was “fun” and during the race we had “some fun”, but the course seemed to pound us, and the other teams, all race long.

From what I understand all the top teams had navigation issues. ...

Baja Travesia 2008 - MX

Baja Travesia 2008

After setting CP's in all weather conditions, preparing paperwork, maps, insurance, permits, t-shirts, prizes, awards, sponsorships and so on and on..... Sunday morning came at early 5am. and it was raining. Thanks HART, you got your wish and we are blaming you for this crappy day. Chuck arrived before 7am and we were off to set up for 8am registrations. Still raining.... we set out the last CP and put ...

ISU Redbird challenge Adventure Race 2006

This is a race report on the 2006 Redbird Challenge Adventure Race hosted by Illinois State University's Outdoor Adventure Program. It’s good to visit home again. Urban Dare is a new genre of racing, somewhat like a 1-day amazing race.

We had another fascinating finish as the first three teams to come into the finish all had to go back out to gain the last stamp on their passports. They ended up finishing 1, 2, and ...

Pumpkin Scramble V: Nightmare Before Christmas

Pumpkin Scramble V: Nightmare Before Christmas

This year’s Pumpkin Scramble was spectacular! The fabulous pictures here from competitors and volunteers say much more than words can.

The fact that the Pumpkin Scramble went off smoothly was quite a miracle and relief after so much drama leading up to the event. Mother Nature did her best to mess with the mighty pumpkin heads! ...

How to Join a Adv Team

After retiring from competitive running I would like to take a crack at Adventure Racing. I have been on the Winning team at the Tuckerman Inferno in the Mt Washington Valley the last 2 years. I have been the captain and would like to expand to the next level. Unfortunately, it is hard to crack into the business and I am looking for a team that is hunting for a new member.

The two teams raced neck and neck through out the 90+ mile course. We were in the last transistion together after more then 24 hours of racing. Some will call it the Lake Hodges race. Ironically it was meant to be in the Laguna Mountains but the venue changed due to the extreme fire danger. However, the day after the Desert Rage race at Lake Hodges the Witch wildfire roared under Interstate 15 at Lake Hodges and tore over the south side of the lake (engulfing checkpoints 4 and 9). Two days later ...

Monsoon Adventures: Sand Storm AR

Wow, what a gorgeous day for AR! Rick and Aarron of Tucson's Monsoon Adventures chose a great venue and perfect day to hold their inaugural race.

Myself, Rick Eastman, was originally scheduled to race with my usual teammate Carter Tobin, but he had to work...yuk! So, I was determined to try a race as team Sierra Adventure Sports solo. I'd never done it, and really didn't think I'd like it, but ...
